Allan Tépper was born in 1964 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He grew up in Trumbull and then Fairfield, both in Connecticut. When Tépper was 8 years old, a strange incident motivated him to learn and then master Castilian, the most popular Spanish language. {Castilian is the official language of Spain, and the primary language in most American countries from México to Argentina, with the notable exceptions of Belize, Brazil, and French Guyana. Castilian is commonly and imprecisely known as "Spanish", which causes great confusion, since there are many Spanish languages spoken natively in Spain. Each one of these languages logically has its own name, and neither one of them could fairly be called "Spanish". Further confusion causes many English speakers to believe that Castilian is a descriptive term to specify the pronunciation of Spaniards (as opposed to Latin Americans), but this is an unfortunate myth.} Tépper studied communications at Ithaca College, in Ithaca, New York. He graduated in 1986 with a degree in TV and Radio Production, with a minor in Castilian (see above). During his Ithaca College years, Tépper also took some courses at Cornell University, and obtained acreditation as a translator by the ATA (American Translators Association). For more than a decade, Tépper has been a columnist, covering topics ranging from video technology to the Castilian language. His articles have been published in more than a dozen magazines, newspapers, and electronic media in the American continent. Having worked in video organizations in Connecticut and later in Florida, Tépper founded TÉPCOM INC. in June of 1994. In 1998 he founded SOPRÉPROC, the Sociedad para la preservación y progreso del castellano or Society for the Preservation and Evolution of the Castilian language, an international non-profit group. From 2000-2002, Tépper was also the editor of TTV, of the Izarra Group. Tépper temporarily left that post when Izarra put the magazine in hibernation mode. In 2003, Tépper founded FCportal.com with Orlando Luna. From the end of 2006 until September 2007, Tépper was the co-director of the South Florida Final Cut Pro User Group. In 2007, Tépper launched the TecnoTur podcast. |
